There is a god!

image

Dave’s tacos has been an icon around this town for as long as pretty much anyone can remember. Dave started his business out of a taco truck over 20 years ago and finally settled down at the stand downtown.

His tacos are known for their unique taste and for being really hot. My first apartment was located directly behind the taco stand and needless to say, I got hooked. It’s a known fact that I am hopelessly addicted.

When I worked night shift, my mouth would water every time we got assigned post 1, as it is right by Dave’s. It’s also strategically located directly next to one of the local hospitals.

About 6 months ago, Dave shut down his stand for unknown reasons. I was greatly dissapointed as there just isn’t anywhere else like it. Well this week god shined his light down on us and blessed us with the reopening of Dave’s tacos!

So here I stand in line anxiously awaiting my spicy goodness!

It warms my heart….

….to see a community coming together like this to stop a group of protesters at a military funeral:

http://www.ihatethemedia.com/a-simple-way-to-stop-westboro-baptist-church-funeral-protesters

I’m all for the first-amendment, and I hate to say this, but I agree that these yahoos do have a “right” to protest. But just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right. I have always been of the belief that if we governed ourselves better, we wouldn’t need a police force to handle all of our problems.

I guess in an ideal world, protesting would be without legal consequence, but it would come with a set of risks. Want to protest a funeral? Go for it, but don’t come crying to me when you get your ass beat by a group of pissed off family and friends.

Unfortunately that’s not the case. In todays society the instigators are protected and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it.

And the first “troll of the blog” award goes to…

Drum Roll……………………………………………….

Mr. David Brown!

Medic Madness has been online for nearly 2 years and has yet to experience it’s first troll until now. So I am pleased to announce that Mr. David Brown get’s to go down in the Medic Madness history book for his breakthrough performance on this post:

http://www.medicmadness.com/2011/04/turn-off-the-lights/

This wasn’t an easy award to achieve. A lot of poor spelling, bad grammar, offensive language and scattered thoughts went into this accomplishment.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Brown on his accomplishment.

Unfortunately, most of his comments were deleted due to their offensive nature.

Note to self

Emergency Medical Services are not intended to be used for actual emergencies.

EMS is best utlized in the following scenarios:

-Replacement for primary care.
-Free rides across town.
-Building a case in a personal injury suit.
-Restless leg syndrome.
-Pain medicine.
-Helping financially destroy the healthcare system.
-On-site parenting classes.
-Making sure all available resources are tied up taking care of the above mentioned scenarios in an attempt to tackle over-population.

The xkcd Pain Scale

I have been following the xkcd comic for a long time now. It’s a great mix of political, geeky, and all around great humor. So after writing my post on the “one to ten” pain scale, you can imagine how much I enjoyed this post.

If you don’t follow xkcd, you should!

Bob Munden – Shooting from the hip

If you are into guns and haven’t heard of this guy, then you are missing out. He holds well over a dozen world records for speed shooting and accuracy. The type of gun? None other than a single action revolver. He has been tested and found to be able to draw, fire and holster faster than a freaking rattle snake can strike. One thing is for certain……you don’t want to be on the wrong end of his gun.

Check out these videos. You won’t be disapointed.  And remember, it’s not bragging if you really are the best.

If they pay for it, they control it

This is a prime example of what happens when government controls your health care. Don’t think they will tell you what to eat, drink, smoke (or not rather) and how much exercise you must do? Think again.

Obviously this isn’t the extreme that I just mentioned, but it follows a steady pattern that leads to controlling your lifestyle.

Bad day at the range – round 2

image

After yesterday’s mishaps at the range, I felt compelled to make another trip in attempt to actually get some quality trigger time. I didn’t shoot my .380 as I still have yet to figure out where my reloaded rounds went wrong. I brought nothing but my Glock .40 (with the stainless barrel this time) and once again ran into issues. A handful of the rounds had trouble feeding and caused it to jam a few times. I have been using reloads for a while now and have never had these problems, so needless to say, I’m a little irritated.

To top everything off, I didn’t shoot very well either. It’s a good thing those bowling pins weren’t packing heat. I wouldn’t have stood a chance.

A bad day at the range still beats a good day at work

image

I had the day off today, and was free to do whatever I wanted. So what better than a couple hours of lead-therapy? Unfortunately my day at the range was cut short by a cast bullet that got stuck in the barrel of my .380, and the fact that I forgot to bring my stainless-steel barrel for my Glock .40 to shoot my cast bullets through.

At least I did OK with the rounds that I was able to get through my .380 before I jammed the barrel. The good news is, the gunsmith at the range cleared it up with no problem and no damage was caused. The other good news is, I got to put 20 rounds through my buddies Ruger .22 pistol and learned that the squirrels don’t stand a chance.

I thought I had seen it all….

We all joke about our fellow ems personnel that are really into this job. Sometimes they are referred to as “ricky rescues” along with several other clever nick names. It’s also common to joke about the amount of gadgets they wear on their belts.

I normally try to refrain as I’m usually happy to see anyone that is passionate about ems. But THIS, my friends, is just going too far.
